Arrived in Edinburgh today, and met up with Katie.
Staying in Melrose tonight, only about 55 miles to Edinburgh.
We got a lift from Alnwick (where Rosie's friends live) back to Lynmouth (where we left our bikes last night), and we continued our journey north. We're staying in Berwick tonight.
Met up with Rose, and, wanting to avoid staying in Whitley Bay, we decided to cycle to Alnwick. We overestimated our cycling skills, so the bikes aren't in Alnwick, but we are.....
We were only 65 miles from Edinburgh, but couldn't work out a way of cycling to Edinburgh in time for Billy to catch a train back to London. We decided not to bother cycling the 7 miles to the Scottish border, so just cycled to Newcastle. We had lunch in a nice village outside Newcastle, and Scary, Scary's mother, and Scary's aunt joined us for a drink.
Billy caught his train OK, and I stayed in the Youth Hostel.
After Billy had drunk lots of tea, we cycled from Durham to Byrness. We left at about 09:00, and arrived at about 20:00, and cycled 66.9 miles. The last 10 miles were quite steep, and Billy's bike started making funny noises. The lady at the Youth Hostel had warmed up some chilli for us, and Billy had a few locally brewed beers before we went to bed.
Cycled from Whitby to Durham to meet Billy. The views were lovely, but the hills were hard work. Had a curry with Billy at Durham's best Indian restaurant, and stayed in High Shincliffe.
Stayed in Whitby today. Tried to find a bike shop to buy Billy a water bottle, but couldn't find one. Went to see the Captain Cook museum.
York - Scarborough
Scarborough - Whitby
Shampoo leaked all over my panniers today, but at least everything else was in plastic bags. Got speed gage gauge working with lots of gaffer tape. [Billy: this was Sarah's spelling mistake, not mine]. Arrived in Scarborough at 5PM, and stayed for about an hour before cycling to Whitby (via a footpath that was closed). Always factor in an extra three hours faffing time to any ETA, and then add another hour for good measure. Now planning what to do with Billy at the weekend.
Beverley - York
A fairly short cycle ride, but very wet. At least all the cars had their windows closed, so they didn't hear me singing! Spent the afternoon sightseeing.
Lincoln - Beverley
Isleham - Peterborough; 45 miles; 6 hours (cycled with Billy)
Peterborough - Lincoln; ?? miles; 5 hours (stayed with Lisa)
Bethnal Green - Isleham; 75 miles; 10 hours (cycled with Billy, stayed with Billy's mates)
Here are some low quality pictures that I sent to Billy by multimedia message. I'll upload the higher quality ones soon.
I took these pictures with my disposable camera, and Billy kindly got them developed for me.
